In 2017 we travel around the world. An eclectic mix inspired by cultural treasures troves, symbology and traditions, natural landscapes and the diversity of people. Trending designs reflect several destinations. Italy, Japan, Amazonas, Africa and Kashmir regions, just to name a few.
The distinctive patterns, textures and designs of these regions will feature both as hero and as influencer in the creativity of 2017.
A trend from the past year, once again the trade winds will take us towards the equator to admire and celebrate the rich diversity, colour and texture that the tropics have to offer. In particular, the Amazonas (a developing food trend that will filter through our homes beyond the dining table). Fern prints of 2016 move forward to find beauty in butterfly wings, exotic birds, coconut fibre and tropical storms.
Celebrating the diversity at play in the multitude of ecosystems, the tropical trend explores interplay, contrast and abundance. Tropical prints in 2016 were about performance: fun, fanfare and flamboyance. The latest take on the tropical theme seems more clever if you like. Sophisticated and sensual.
Designs are exaggerated and hyper real. Capturing the heat, live force and shear energy of this environment.

Green is the new black – from matcha lattes to the drapes in your living room, green is a trending colour for 2017. The table and high fashion walkways are interchangeable on this one. Kale will dominate.
Just as it is in nature, a background of green is contrasted with bright pops of colour. Expect to see yellow, spice orange and raspberry pink feature in 2017. Think ripe fruit; berries, papaya, mango and gems stones; emeralds, amber, amethyst and rubies. Another colour that is hard to ignore is Atlantic blue. Watery hues add depth, comfort and stability.

KALE – a food trend that has flourished in recent years with the sizeable shift to wellness and clean eating, the deep verdant tone of kale is set to be the colour for this year. Paired with Hazelnut and Raspberry. Contrasted with bright yellow and spiced paprika orange.
INDIVIDUALITY + ETHNICITY – borrowing from the past, from traditions and cultural treasures troves. We travel around the world and through time with visits to Italy, Japan, Egypt, Uzbekistan and Kashmir regions, just to name a few.

CRAVING THE FAMILIAR + RETURNING TO TRADITIONS – In our ever-hectic lives, we are seeking out the familiar, especially in private residential abodes. Returning to traditions, classic designs and things we feel a connection with from our childhoods memories – seaside holidays, family meals and more. We’ll see new creative takes on classic designs. A reinterpretation if you like, where the best parts of our memories are highlighted, romanticised and amplified.
LAYERING MAGIC – we expect to see a playful, majestic and evolved approach to composition and curation. Images presented will transform and transcend with a careful and clever use of transparency, manipulating our viewpoints and reactions, all whilst maintaining beauty.
Furthermore, these are some sub-trends or underlying features to keep an eye on in 2017:
Geometrics and stripes – Ever present and much loved, you can always expect to see stripes and geometric influences in the trend line up. Block prints, nautical stripes and geometric inlays, tribal tattooing influences may feature.
Sustainability – Upcycle, recycle and adding value are strong trends that carry forward into 2017. By combining values of sustainability with creativity we see products that customers feel emotive connection to.
Upholstered headboards – Romantic bedroom settings with soft finishing touches. Fabric headboards and layered accessories are a must in 2017.
