Trend report - lines & florals
This week our 20/21 trend watch focuses on NOSTALGIA. A nod to design statements of our past, with new takes on Art Deco furniture inlays and throwback floral prints amidst the influences for new collections.
SHAPES + LINES – This has been a developing trend for a few years, and in 2020 it remains in focus, but with an emphasis being on balance and detailing.
Geometric inlays on furniture, or subtle patterning in wallpaper, rather than bold all over statements.
We’ll see a mix of shapes, block colour and thin lines. This latest reinvention of the geometric trend will be less pop and wow factor, and more about fine detail, intentional design and craftsmanship of the Art Deco period.
From window framing to cabinetry handles and tap ware, the use of black lines is all about paying attention to the details and creating contrast. Particularly when partnered with white, and metallics. But we will also see deep rich blacks in fabrics, particularly upholstery and in the tassels and piping details on cushions and bed linen.
Metallics (mostly gold) also feature, shining in contrast to rich black.
THROWBACK FLORALS – Floral designs for fabrics and walls will tend towards yesteryear. Think about the homes of your grandparents, before the floral wallpapers were torn down.
Pink flowery wallpaper will be back and not shying away from bold pops of colour - saffron yellow, pinks, and deep orange tones, as well as a range of greys hues. Green remains a constant.
