Trend report - Velvet and Denim must haves
VELVET – Blending luxury and comfort, particularly for sofas and top of bed accessories.
And for those who are truly ready to embrace the velvet trend, add velvet to your walls. Velvet wallcoverings have been available before now, but not many have tried it. Expect this trend too feature in 2020, as people see just how fantastic velvet can be when it catches the light and transforms the walls of a room.
A timeless look, adding richness of colour to spaces – vibrant blues, pinks, burnt orange and deep taupe greys. The velvet trend ties into a shift away from minimalism to ‘maximalism’ – embracing grandeur. But being restrained and deliberate rather than brash and OTT.
Maximalism in 2020 is about creating rich indulgent spaces designed with intentionality, not excess.
DENIM – Don’t throw your denim jacket out just yet. Our love affair with denim is continually evolving, as designers bring new influences to the fore.
With Pantone’s Colour of 2020 being Classic Blue, denim is sure to be a strong contender. Expect denim looks to have a relaxed, retro look’n’feel and be lighter.
We brought this classic into our homes in 2019 particularly in bed linen and accessories, and we will see more in the coming years.
The denim look will influence other fabric and wallcovering designs with washes of blue and the faded look of stonewashed fabrics.
