Trend watch for 2020/21
Over the next few weeks, we'll roll out a trend report series that looks at 6 key home decor trends for 2020/21. We'll bring you reports from textile fairs in Europe and previews of new collections being released in coming weeks. We begin this NATURE, NOSTALGIA & NUANCE series with one such trend...
BIOPHILIA – An affinity with the natural world.
In response to climate change, our attention shifts from creating zen spaces of retreat, to a more authentic connection with, and a giving back to nature. Clean and environmentally responsible living.
An organic aesthetic:
As well as filling our homes with indoor plants (more than before) and botanical art, our living spaces will feature recycled wood, stone, natural fibres and weaves.
Rooms will have warmth through neutral tones, in this shift forward from white minimalism, but colour palettes are kept bare and earthy. Alongside hues of green will be cinnamon and nutmeg.
Nature makes its way back into the engineered spaces of concrete walls, floors and exposed structure that have been on trend in recent years. Natural throws, floor rugs and wooden furniture will be key.
Sustainably sourced and recycled/reuseable will not go out of fashion.
